AU Description: Tsuyukusa's peculiar origins can be traced to the continent of Larendt, once a haven for many creatures and ancient beings who hoped to remain unbothered by the Empire's reach. Unfortunately things have changed much over time, and Larendt has become another resource for the Varschein Empire. This was especially not ideal when you happened to be related to trees.

Tsuyukusa's progenitor was a tree spirit, a kodama, displaced beyond distances. It was able to graft itself to a young tree in the deep woods, which gradually flourished, and much of the surrounding woods benefited from its presence and watchful eye. The area bore a natural concentration of Ether through which the tree spirit was able to weave a spell of protection, and there would be rumors of unfortunate people never seen again who have wandered alone, too deep. These woods were a shelter for creatures and more nature-oriented species, and the tree spirit found companionship with a Planetouched, who took it upon themselves to be its guardian, and likewise responsibility for any who sought refuge in their woods. Unfortunately the Empire was slowly encroaching upon them in its ignorance and carelessness, and knowing it would be unable to escape, especially for its sheer size and its age, the old tree spirit asked its guardian that a cutting be taken from it, that perhaps this one would find peace and a home away from the Empire's reach. Thus, Tsuyukusa was born.

Being suffused in Ether, the young tree spirit had better ability to hold a more physical shape outside of his tree. He was however warned not to stray far, but the child was curious as a child naturally could be. One day he came across a lost woodsman, and while he teased the human, also felt a bit sorry as the man lamented about never finding his way back to his family. Tsuyukusa led him back to the edges of his part of the woods, and was promised a token of gratitude by the woodsman if he returned the next day. What neither counted upon was the Imperials taking advantage of the situation, forcing the woodsman to bring him to where the meeting would take place. Believing Tsuyukusa to be involved in the spell cast upon the area, they attacked him, leaving the little tree spirit no choice but to fight back. Vicious as one could be, he was still young and easily overpowered and grievously wounded, losing hold of the humanoid form he'd adopted, reverting to something more creaturelike in his weakness. The guardian of the woods found him and the Imperials, and in their rage for this transgression, slaughtered the Imperials and the unfortunate woodsman, but not before being mortally wounded themselves.

Using the last of their power, they cursed the woods there so that none could pass without being devoured by the trees, blood staining the ground and seeping as sap, a warning to try warding off any who might try to come deeper and find the precious trees of the kodama, with the unfortunate side-effect of warping any creatures who stayed within the area into savage monsters. To Tsuyukusa the guardian gave the rest of their lifeforce, to heal him and give him the physical ability to be sustained even far from his tree. He was sent far away for his safety, and in hopes that perhaps he would be able to find a way to save the home he'd known, and those who had sought refuge under the boughs of his predecessor.


OU Backstory: General overview of the story he's from, as far as the anime had covered it. Here is Tsuyukusa's backstory, specifically from the manga.

Powers and Abilities: Tsuyukusa boasts some surprising strength despite his appearance. He can easily lift and toss people twice his size and bust through walls and such with a good punch. He's very adept at hand-to-hand combat and quick in reflexes, nimble on his feet. He's able to cross some fair distances in relatively little time, especially at home in forests where he can navigate rapidly along the tree branches as though they're a path of their own. Given what he is, he can sense others of a more spiritual/supernatural being and particularly he has an affinity for nature and plants, specifically, having a natural knowledge of them and their uses. He makes use of such for healing treatments, but in the case of emergencies, he's also able to heal with his own power if he must. When it comes to plants, he can stimulate growth, although this isn't something he does extensively out of habit. It does come in handy if he finds himself in need of a quick weapon, i.e. he's able to create a staff from a twig.

His senses are attuned to Ether and he can readily tell if someone's levels are imbalanced, or gauge how strong someone might be. The way his method of healing others works is by supplementing his own Ether to help their own. In similar fashion he can purify poisoned or tainted places, and his Ether senses help with finding areas that are particularly concentrated, or by contrast, considerably barren.

When he's weakened, he loses his hold on the humanoid form he wears, revealing little by little the inhuman features of a planetouched. In his actual form he resembles a massive green bird with branchlike horns and a stone beak, and feet like the lower trunk and roots of trees.
